Gordon's Bay is a harbour town situated in the northeastern corner of False Bay, close to Strand, and about 50km from Cape Town. The town - still considered a village by many of its residents - comprises three parts: the 'old village' situated around the old harbour, Bikini Beach and the main beach; the 'mountainside which lies on the lower slopes of the Hottentots-Holland Mountains; and 'Flat Gordon's Bay' which is the most recently developed part. The older part of Gordon's Bay is home to the South African Naval College, an officer training center located adjacent to the old harbour and yacht marina. The Steenbras Dam, Cape Town's primary supply of drinking water, is located on the mountain above the town.
