Durban is South Africa's second most populous city, the busiest port in Africa and a major centre for tourism due to its warm subtropical climate and beaches. Its population is over 3-mil but it has a relatively low density compared to other South African cities. The metropolitan area is topographically hilly, with very few flat areas, except in the immediate vicinity of the central business district and the harbor. Many gorges and ravines are found within the metropolitan area and there is almost no true coastal plain. The Durban Metropolitan Area has a large and diversified economy with strong manufacturing, tourism, transportation, finance and government sectors. Recent property activity includes with the new Point development south-east of downtown, including uShaka Marine World and many new residential and leisure developments, as well as 2010 FIFA World Cup stadium north of the CBD.
