Wilderness is a seaside town on the Garden Route of the Southern Cape. It is close to the city of George and accessed via the N2, from the Kaaiman's River Pass. It lies on the Touw River Lagoon and is known for its long, white, sandy beach and lagoons. The town caters mostly to holiday-makers who make the most of its extremely mild climate with temperatures seldom dropping below 10ºC or moving above 28ºC. It receives year-round rainfall which supports the lush forest vegetation. The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe steam train runs through the town en route between George and Knysna.
